Voice typing in Google Docs, cleaned up.

Docs’ built-in voice typing is free and fine for raw text. Vokalu does the cleanup it doesn’t: fillers out, “no wait, actually” applied, paragraphs that read like writing. And it works in Edge, Firefox and Safari, not just Chrome.

01

Click where you’d type in Google Docs

Vokalu types wherever your cursor is: a message box, a prompt, a document, a comment.

02

Hold the shortcut and talk

Hold Ctrl + Win on Windows or Control + Option on Mac. Correct yourself as you go (“no wait, Friday”); Vokalu keeps only what you meant.

03

Let go, then read it once

The text appears in Google Docs, formatted for it. Check names, numbers and dates before you send anything.

What Vokalu does in Google Docs

Text going into Google Docs is treated as a document: well-formed paragraphs, fillers and false starts removed, corrections applied. Your words, not a rewrite.

In a browser, Vokalu recognizes Google Docs from the tab title, so keep the site’s name in it (it is by default). Only the name “Google Docs” is used for formatting; the rest of the title stays on your computer.

Questions worth asking

Why not use Google Docs voice typing?

If it already works for you, keep it. Vokalu adds cleanup and works in every browser and app, and its formatting adapts outside Docs too.

Does Vokalu access my documents?

No. It only types into the document you have open. It doesn’t connect to your Google account.
