CHANGELOG

What’s new in Vokalu

Vokalu updates itself. Here’s what changed, release by release.

Open apps by voice

v0.2.29 ·

  • Say “Vokalu, open Notion” or “Vokalu, remind me at 4 to call the bank,” and Vokalu does it. Put something on your calendar the same way.
  • Reading aloud. Say “Vokalu, read this” and a natural voice reads the page or the text you selected, in its language or translated. Pause it from the Vokalu bar, or press Esc to stop. 4¢ a minute, on Windows.
  • Meeting notes list the follow-ups, with a button to copy your own to-dos.
  • Out of free credit? Add $2 from the app, or keep dictating for free with Private mode.

Smoother voice instructions

v0.2.27 ·

  • “Vokalu, turned this into a list” works like “turn this into a list.”
  • Talking about Vokalu in a sentence no longer counts as an instruction.
  • A post on X no longer starts with a stray space.

Updates for every computer

v0.2.25 ·

  • Windows and Mac now get their own update feeds, so an update on one never holds up the other.

Quieter on the Mac

v0.2.24 ·

  • The Vokalu bar’s sound no longer keeps the Mac’s audio awake between dictations, and checking for calls uses a fraction of the power it did.

Faster, cleaner formatting

v0.2.23 ·

  • Formatting is faster.
  • Emails put the sign-off and your name on their own lines, and Command Mode no longer adds a Subject line.
  • Sentences split by a pause are joined back together.
  • Call detection is lighter between checks.

Quicker dictation

v0.2.22 ·

  • Your text arrives sooner: Vokalu answers first and records the charge after.
  • Speech is sent in a smaller format, so dictation is quicker on slow connections.

A calmer Home

v0.2.21 ·

  • The flame on Home stops animating after a moment instead of running forever.

A friendlier Mac setup

v0.2.19 ·

  • The Mac download opens on a window that shows where to drag Vokalu.
  • Setup walks you through the two Mac permissions, microphone and Accessibility, and moves on as soon as each is granted.

Vokalu for Mac

v0.2.18 ·

  • Vokalu runs on macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel. The shortcut is Control + Option.
  • Home shows the same stats on every computer you sign in on.

Badges for your style

v0.2.17 ·

  • Each dictation style gets its own badge on Home and on the image you can share.

Spaces between dictations

v0.2.16 ·

  • Two dictations in a row get a space between them, so “let go” and “Then” no longer run together.

Your dictation style, and lighter formatting

v0.2.15 ·

  • Home shows your style this week, like The Inbox Tamer or The Delegator, from where your words went. It’s worked out on your computer from counts only.
  • Light formatting is the new default: punctuation, fillers and your corrections, with every word kept as you said it.
  • Balanced formatting no longer swaps your words for synonyms, and keeps your own turns of phrase.

Lighter in the background

v0.2.14 ·

  • Vokalu does less while it waits. When a browser keeps your mic open all day, call detection no longer rereads its tabs every few seconds.
  • Private mode clears the on-device speech model from memory after 10 minutes unused, freeing about 290 MB (Fast) or 1 GB (Accurate). It loads again while you talk.

Voice messages, too

v0.2.13 ·

  • Upload Discord and WhatsApp voice messages, .opus files and WebM recordings, and get notes from them like any other recording.

Notes from any recording

v0.2.12 ·

  • Upload an audio or video file on the Notes page (MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, Ogg, MP4, MOV or MKV, up to 3 hours) and get notes with the speakers told apart.
  • Vokalu reads the file on your PC and sends only its speech for transcribing. The file itself is never stored.
  • Same price as meetings: 2¢ per minute of talking. Silence is free.
  • Spending “this month” on Home now starts on the 1st in your time zone.

A matching total

v0.2.11 ·

  • “Spent in total” on Home now adds up to the breakdown of where your credit went.

Where your credit went

v0.2.10 ·

  • Home shows what your credit went to (dictation, meeting notes and hosting), this month and in total.

Calls in any browser tab

v0.2.9 ·

  • A browser tab that’s using your mic now counts as a call, so Vokalu offers to take notes for web meetings beyond Meet, Teams and Zoom, and names the right tab.

Call detection fixes

v0.2.8 ·

  • Better troubleshooting for calls Vokalu doesn’t notice: the local activity log lists which apps start using the mic (never what’s said).

A snappier meeting prompt

v0.2.7 ·

  • The Take notes prompt appears about a second after a call starts.
  • The recording reminder is shown once. After that, notes start as soon as you click.
  • Google Meet’s in-call tab is recognized.

Sharper call detection

v0.2.6 ·

  • Call detection checks which apps are actually using your mic, finds Google Meet in a browser full of tabs, and knows more call apps.

Notes when the call starts

v0.2.5 ·

  • When Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Slack, Webex or another call app starts using your mic, the pill offers to take notes. Turn it off in Settings › Meetings.
  • Outlook calendar: Microsoft 365, Outlook.com and Teams meetings on the Notes page, with attendees filled in.

Google Calendar

v0.2.4 ·

  • Connect Google Calendar in Settings › Meetings. Your upcoming meetings show on the Notes page, and notes start with the attendees filled in.

Meeting notes, rebuilt

v0.2.3 ·

  • Notes read like a colleague wrote them: who was there, each topic as it came up, the exact numbers and names, and next steps with owners.
  • The other people on the call are told apart, and your name, attendees and dictionary words help the notes get names right.
  • Jot your own notes during the meeting and the write-up is built around them.
  • Ask a meeting anything, or have it draft the follow-up. Included for a week after the call, then 1¢ a question.
  • Meetings are billed by talking time. Silence is free.
  • Share notes with an encrypted link, export every meeting at once, and connect Claude Desktop or Cursor to your meetings.
  • iCloud Calendar: upcoming meetings on the Notes page, and notes that start with the attendees filled in.
  • Optional meeting hosting ($5 a month from your credit) keeps every meeting on your account and on all your devices.
  • Dictation history is kept for 24 hours by default, and meeting notes for 90 days unless you keep them.

Leaner meeting notes

v0.2.2 ·

  • Meeting notes are transcribed about once a minute, cut at natural pauses, with you and everyone else on the call still kept apart.
  • Silent stretches are skipped, and a dropped connection just delays the transcript instead of losing it.
  • The live transcript now appears about a minute behind the conversation.

Meeting notes that keep going

v0.2.1 ·

  • Meeting notes keep recording when your headset or speakers change mid-call, and tell you when it happens.
  • Records both your default and your communications devices, so calls on a headset are always heard.
  • If your connection drops during a meeting, Vokalu reconnects and catches up. Nothing said is lost.
  • A warning if your microphone goes quiet or is muted.
  • A tidier sidebar, and shorter update highlights on Home.

Your voice, your notes, your team

v0.2.0 ·

  • Private mode: download a speech model for free, on-device dictation. Optional cloud formatting costs 0.5¢ per minute.
  • Vokalu learns your writing habits, with rules you can review and remove in Settings.
  • Voice editing commands and form filling. Spoken commands currently use English.
  • Meeting notes and thinking out loud, with built-in and custom templates.
  • Business preview: invited teammates share company credit, vocabulary, templates and reviewed notes. Search shared notes by company or contact; no seat fees.
  • Partial meeting transcripts are saved during calls, and rewrite permissions survive server restarts.
  • Spanish, German and Portuguese app interfaces, plus translated home, pricing and download pages.
  • Friend invites, promo codes and an accessibility program with extra free credit.
  • A guided tour, update highlights and a shareable weekly summary.
  • Safer sign-in links, recording limits and clipboard privacy protections.

Quick actions and translation

v0.1.6 ·

  • Quick actions on the pill right after a paste: Shorter, Friendlier, Formal, or back to the Original, rewritten in place.
  • An always-on “Translate to” setting: speak any language, get text in the one you pick.
  • About a third less memory while Vokalu sits in the tray: the window is only created when you open it.
  • Home shows how much you’ve saved compared with a $15/month subscription.
  • The pill follows the monitor you’re typing on.

Monthly top-ups

v0.1.5 ·

  • Top up automatically every month, and skip a month or cancel in one screen.
  • Credit you buy never expires.

Free every week

v0.1.4 ·

  • A free plan: 75¢ of welcome credit plus 25¢ of dictation every week.
  • Music and videos pause while you dictate, so they don’t bleed into your mic.

60+ languages and smarter formatting

v0.1.3 ·

  • More than 60 languages, with auto-detect.
  • Formatting that fits where you’re typing: email, chat, AI prompts, notes and code.
  • A livelier Home: streaks, your week at a glance, milestones.

Voice prompts

v0.1.2 ·

  • End a dictation with “Vokalu, format this as an email” or “Vokalu, turn this into bullets.”
  • Faster formatting: Vokalu starts polishing during your pauses.

Fixes

v0.1.1 ·

  • Launch at login keeps pointing at the right copy of Vokalu after updates.

First public release

v0.1.0 ·

  • Hold Ctrl + Win, talk, let go: clean text in any Windows app.
  • Automatic updates.
