Put your cursor wherever you want to type. Hold Control + Option on Mac or Ctrl + Win on Windows, speak, and release. Vokalu turns your voice into text and inserts it right there. You can change every shortcut in settings.
Does it work in my apps?
If you can type there, you can dictate there: messages, email, documents, browsers, code editors, and terminals. No browser extension or app-by-app integration needed.
What’s free?
A 75¢ welcome credit plus 25¢ of free dictation every week, so your first week is $1 free: about 50 minutes with Dictate + Format, or about 67 with Dictate. After that, the weekly 25¢ covers about 12 minutes (about 16 with Dictate). It refills every Monday and doesn’t roll over. It’s the free plan, so it ends once you add credit. No payment card needed. One per computer.
Where do my recordings and words go?
Your speech is processed online using third-party speech and AI services. Vokalu never keeps your audio, and your dictations and meeting notes stay on your computer unless you turn on meeting hosting or share a link. Files you upload are read on your computer; only their speech is sent for transcribing. Usage minutes are recorded for billing. Our speech provider may retain audio and transcripts to improve its models; other provider retention is explained in our privacy policy. Dictation history stays on your computer for 24 hours, and you can shorten that or turn it off.
Does it work offline?
Yes, with Private mode. Download an on-device speech model in Settings, and dictation is recognized on your computer, even with no internet. On-device dictation without AI formatting is free. Choose Private mode for every app, or only for apps you mark private. With a model installed, Vokalu also falls back to it if your connection drops mid-dictation.
Is there a Mac or phone app?
Yes for the Mac: Vokalu runs on macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel, as well as Windows 10 and 11. On a Mac the shortcut is Control + Option. A few things are Windows-only for now: reading aloud, filling a form by voice, learning from your edits, and muting other audio during dictation. There’s no phone app yet.
